School teachers and I would put substitutes in a category that should be in a position to watch what they say around our impressionable children. Yesterday my 3rd grader came home and told me that "Let's blow this joint" means that it is smoking a joint of marijuana. In my state of shock, he goes on to tell me his teacher told him.
Not his regular teacher, his substitute teacher. They are learning idioms at school, and one that said that was on the wall. Apparently, the teacher felt it was her obligation to teach the kids it doesn't mean to leave somewhere.
I went and had a chat with my son's regular teacher today. She was pretty floored herself. She said she will talk to the principal and the substitute about what happened so at least something will be done.
I am glad I brought it to her attention, but I am furious that someone that is impressionable to children is saying these kinds of things around kids. I am trying to teach my kids drugs are bad and she makes it sound like it is okay.
I may be over reacting but I am annoyed. She subs at the school all of the time and is one of the very active PTA members. This is not someone I want around my children influencing them.

Breakfast in Bed and other ramblings
It was so cute this morning. Me and the hubby awoke to the kids talking about what kind of toast mom and dad liked. They all know dad likes peanut butter on toast. I am not a big fan of peanut butter. My five year old got mad at my nine year old and wanted to make my husband's breakfast so he threw the toast he made away and made him a peanut butter sandwich.
I after all did end up with some toast and jam. Our 4 year old brought us a glass of milk to go along with our sandwich and toast. It was a thoughtful gesture.
Along other lines, our ward got split today, meaning we are in a whole new ward. We have a new Bishop. It is a bittersweet thing, it is sad because we are losing a lot of our good friends but it also gives us the opportunity to get to know a lot of new people as well. We are only a few blocks away from the other people too.
For those people wondering why I haven't quit using my bike clip shoes, my husband tried to put my regular pedals on and got one of the pedals on so much that he could never get the clipped pedal off. Therefore, I am stuck using clip shoes. We could never get the pedal back off. I don't have a choice but to learn to ride that way.

Got Back On
I was able to finally get back on my bike today after my little falling off accident.
It was nice to go back outside. I made it without any falls. Too bad for my neighbor that wanted to capture that video so he could win America's Funniest Home Videos. I was getting worried I was losing my training time for my ride. Luckily my husband bought me an indoor trainer.
He bought it so I could use it for the bad weather days. (He didn't realize it was going to be used because his wife was clumsy and had to use it cause she injured herself.)
I made it up the canyon 2 miles today in 15 minutes and the last time I rode it, it took me 30. I was pretty excited that I haven't lost my legs from being inside. Maybe I will be ready for that ride after all.

Friday Field Trip
I went with my son's Kindergarten class on their field trip to the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point today. I have never been there before. It is a pretty cool place.
The teacher had us take our child and another child with us. I think I got a whirlwind, not a child. I am not sure but after about 2 minutes I realized this kid was going to be holding my hand, he didn't get to just walk around.
You wouldn't think that after raising three kids it would be that hard to watch after someone else's kid. I was constantly on the move with this kid. Keeping track of him was like following a tornado. One minute I had him in my sight and the next I was searching for him again. I even lost him after I had him on the bus. Luckily, he was with another mom.
This held his attention the longest of anything. It was a sand and water thing they could play in.
By the end of the day I was wishing that this shark would eat this kid up. This is him and my son together before we left. I decided I am glad my children don't act like this, at least with me. I hope they are not like this with other people.

What I Learned This Week

This week I have learned, just when I thought I got the hang of my bike, I fell off again. You can read the whole story here.
My kids can be very helpful if they want to be. Since I can't use my left hand, my house is cleaner than when I can do everything.
We only have one puppy left, I didn't realize it would be so hard letting them go.
We have implemented a new beans and rice discipline method. It is working pretty good. You can read about it here.
You can participate in this at musings of a housewife.

A Return To Virtue
The title of this post is what our Relief Society lesson was on today. This part of it is really good, but if you want to read all of it, you can go here.
Elaine S. Dalton is who this talk is by:
Virtue is a prerequisite to entering the Lord’s holy temples and to receiving the Spirit’s guidance. Virtue “is a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards.”6 It encompasses chastity and moral purity. Virtue begins in the heart and in the mind. It is nurtured in the home. It is the accumulation of thousands of small decisions and actions. Virtue is a word we don’t hear often in today’s society, but the Latin root word virtus means strength. Virtuous women and men possess a quiet dignity and inner strength. They are confident because they are worthy to receive and be guided by the Holy Ghost. President Monson has counseled: “You be the one to make a stand for right, even if you stand alone. Have the moral courage to be a light for others to follow. There is no friendship more valuable than your own clear conscience, your own moral cleanliness—and what a glorious feeling it is to know that you stand in your appointed place clean and with the confidence that you are worthy to do so.”7
The person giving the lesson also went over the virtues in Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley's book Stand For Something. I am going to pull that book out and reread it.
I am thankful for these reminders we have to strive to do better in our lives. It was a very inspiring lesson.

What's Not To Love?!
How can you not love this precious face? Today was mom's turn to get her heart broken. This sweet puppy looking at you, was my favorite. She always ran to me and snuggled.
We were going to let our neighbor take her, until she started having some health problems. We decided for her safety we would let the puppy go to another home.
Today a sweet little family came and took my Suzy. I think I was as sad as the day my little girl's favorite left. I am happy she is going to a good home though.
The wife bought her as a surprise for her husband. She will be growing up with little kids, so she will be well loved.

What Doesn't Kill Us Makes Us Stronger
I haven't blogged in a few days since I can only type with my left hand. If my bike doesn't kill me it should make me stronger right?
I had another crash on my road bike.
After taking my baby to Kindergarten registration on Wednesday she wanted to go to Payson Market and get a donut. Since I had been doing good on my bike, I figured that I could make it that far. WRONG! I got into the parking lot and somehow my foot decided it wasn't going to come out of the pedal this time.
Next thing I know, I was crashing to the ground in front of several teenage boys. None of them laughed, but none of them offered help either. Ihad to ride home about a mile with my hand hanging over the handle bar, no shifting(TOO MUCH PAIN!) Luckily I was in a low gear.
After a night of pain and doing nothing, I resorted to going to the doctor and had to get x-rays.
To no avail no broken bones, just a lot of pain and annoying bruises and bumps on this old body.
If I make it to my ride without killing myself I will be stronger, I think?!
I Wish Someone would have told me I wasn't cut out for bike riding anymore! This isn't coming so easy for me.

A Spiritual Tag
I was reading Devri's blog today and this is what she had.
Shall we see how far we can spread this....It is an easy one.
1. Take this button and put it on your sidebar.

2. Now in a post, (it can be a new one, or go in and edit an old one) Bear your testimony. Show the world that you have a testimony of your church.
3. Now link your new button to that post...That is it..
I know that the Internet is a powerful tool. If we can use it to share our testimony's to those who are searching for theirs, if we can change one persons life,IT WILL BE WORTH IT..
Don't forget to pass on this tag. Let's see how far this can go.. Thank you...
You can go here to read my testimony.
(if you are not of the LDS faith, why don't you share your testimony of your own faith, I would love to read it). Tell everyone to take the button... Lets get this out there..
4 Year Olds and Primary
I got to go and help in my little girl's primary class today. They learned about baptism. It is so funny some of the things the kids say when they are learning at church.
One little boy doesn't want to get baptized cause he will have to wear his swim things on his arms.
Their level of understanding is so cute. The kids who have been to a baptism realize they don't have to swim in the water.
It is a fun age to be with to listen to and learn what they think about different things.
I am thankful to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints and know that we can be baptized. The knowledge that our sins can be washed away and be clean and return to our Heavenly Father one day because of these things is a comfort that we have. I am thankful for the primary teachers my kids have to teach them these things.

Bike Lesson # 3
After several wrecks on my new bike last week, I stayed off my bike for a few days. Partly because of snow and then I started realizing that I was just being a WIMP.
My husband gave me the chance to ride a couple of days and I found reasons not to. As I was sitting here on Monday and Tuesday finding reasons not to ride, I realized that I was scared of my bike.
Wednesday was the day that I decided I needed to face up to my fear of wrecking on by bike. I started thinking to myself. GET BACK ON YOU BIG BABY! So as all my kids were gone I finally decided to give it another try. I have to go 38 miles on it in 12 weeks after all.
I have finally found a solution that works for me. I have gotten 2 rides in 2 days and haven't had any catastrophes. I am always telling my kids they have to do things but I was avoiding getting over my own fear.
I am pathetic. Now if I could just get over my fear of heights. (That will be something that will be another day and probably a lifetime.)

What I Learned This Week

First and foremost, I learned we are going to have a lot of broken hearts at our house when our puppies leave in the next few weeks. Probably the mom along with the kids. They have been a lot of fun.
Riding a road bike with your shoes attached to the pedals is not an easy thing. It is like having to relearn how to ride a bike. For the whole story click here.
We went to our neighbor's baptism on Saturday. It is amazing to see the changes that having the Gospel in a family can bring. The Spirit was very strong there. For those of you that don't know we belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
I do not enjoy helping my children with projects from school they call simple machines. If my son invents it there is never anything simple about it. He has to make everything complicated.
If you want to play along or just want to post this you can go to Musings of Housewife. She does a carnival every Tuesday.

What a Sad Face!
This is her telling her daddy about her Sassy leaving.
Today was a sad day for Joslyn. Our first puppy left. Unfortunately for her it happened to be her favorite. She didn't go anywhere without her puppy she named Sassy.
I'm sure there are going to be a lot more hearts getting broken at our house in the next few weeks we have 7 more to go.

Why Do Kids Have To Be So Picky?!

How could you pass up these?
I decided to try some new recipes tonight for dinner that I got from here. I got a cheesy potato soup and these to die for cheese muffins. The pioneer woman has some amazing recipes. I decided to try some for dinner tonight.
But to no avail only me and the hubby enjoyed the meal. It was delicious. The kids wouldn't even try it because it was something new. Too bad they don't even know what they were missing out on.

Bike Lesson #2 learned
I took my bike out for ride #2 this morning. I hooked the bike trailer on with my four year old in. I learned today that you can't stop if you don't have somewhere to hold on to. She needed a drink so I stopped at a church parking lot to get us both a drink. Bad idea. I tried and tried to get my shoes back in the clips. I finally just rode a ways with one in and saw a truck parked at the side of the rode. I thought oh great I can pull up to it and get my balance. Wouldn't luck have it that just as I was almost there the people got in it and drove away.
Next, I saw a street sign and figured it was close enough to the rode I could probably use it.
After several attempts and falling off my bike 3 or 4 times again. With my little girl asking "Mommy are you okay?"
I finally put my left foot in the clip and started riding. I discovered today that if I put my left foot first I can get my right foot in while riding. We finally made it back on after a 10 minute stop. Thank goodness. I can't imagine what the people driving by were thinking I was doing.

My first bike ride and CRASH!
I got my new bike yesterday via UPS. I hadn't tried it out yet. We had to get the wheels pumped up and the shoes. It has the clip shoes.
Tonight my hubby took me to the bike shop and bought me some shoes and a helmet. Thank goodness for the helmet! I went around the block for the first time after I got my clipped shoes. When I got home I was trying to stop and get my shoes out. I couldn't get my left foot out and CRASHED in the middle of the driveway. Just like when you were 5 and learning how to ride your bike.
The best part was only my 4 year old neighbor boy was outside besides us. He can ride a two wheeler. So he decided to hop on his and show me how it was done. He rode over and rode around so I could see with a big grin on his face. Kind of like I needed to know it wasn't so hard.
My hubby made me get back on and try again. Luckily, the 2nd time was a charm after 10 minutes of trying to get my balance and the neighbors driving by in their truck laughing, trying to figure out why I was holding on to my husband and wouldn't leave my driveway.
I was seriously seeing my life flashing before my eyes. It is a scary thing being strapped to your bike and not knowing if you are going to be able to get loose. I am a chicken. I have a sore hip and wrist tonight. I am not as young as I used to be.

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Yesterday as I was talking to my neighbor, she was telling me she found out Macaroni and cheese had a very high sodium content and wasn't very healthy. My 9 year overheard the conversation and later rehearsed it to my 5 year old as this.
"Ty mom won't let us have macaroni and cheese anymore because she found out it isn't healthy and mom likes to be healthy." Tyler,"Well she will still let us eat it." Don goes on, " No, Kim told her that it isn't healthy and we don't have any so she won't buy it anymore."
I had to laugh and go tell my husband the conversation. It was pretty comical. Who knew macaroni and cheese could cause such a serious conversation.
